Westwood outlasts Ishpeming, snapping two-game losing streak

E nough was enough.

Westwood coach Chad Hewitt likes to keep a hands-off approach with his players, allowing them to dictate how their season progresses.

But after two blowout losses, it was time to step in.

The Patriots pride themselves on their defense, but after giving up just 39 points a game, they allowed Iron Mountain to score 60 and Gladstone to get 62 in back-to-back losses.

“We had a conversation after the Gladstone game and at practice,” he said. “I grabbed my seniors and I said, ‘Listen. Enough is enough. We have to get back to what we do and play our style of basketball.’ And they did.”

It worked, and Westwood got back to its principles, defeating Ishpeming 49-41 on Friday at Ishpeming.
