W hen Wakefield-Marenisco came into Ewen for Tuesday night’s season opener, its offensive game plan didn’t focus around one of the best guards in the Upper Peninsula, Mason Saubert.
It was all about taking advantage of the fact that Jake Witt — and his 6-7, 240-pound frame — is at Michigan Tech.
The last four years, the Panthers never had to worry about getting beat on the glass, as they pretty much dominated there.
But here in the opening quarter of the new season, W-M outboarded E-TC by a staggering 18-4. And while Saubert only ended up with nine points, the Cardinals won 63-56.
