T he Escanaba Eskymos are pressed for time.
“Push it,” shouts veteran head coach Tracy Hudson from across the gym floor.
The Eskymos have a short window to prepare for the season due to a lengthy postseason football run, and Hudson begins to shout another command, but from a certain vantage point, it’s hard to tell what it is. Hudson is drowned out by a thundering stampede of giants – “giants” being a relative term here. Hudson, in his historic 22nd year behind the bench with a career mark of 230-215 presides over possibly the biggest team top to bottom in the Upper Peninsula. The Eskymos, he says, are the favorites to win the Great Northern Conference this season; but the thing is, Marquette is also the favorite, and so is Gladstone, and so is Kingsford.
