T he biggest difference with the Gladstone Braves is that they’re fun. Their uptempo style is fun to watch, they appear to be having more fun and it’s always fun when you win. There are more smiles now when the players visit with friends and family after games, and the source of it all can be traced back to the Christmas break.
“A lot of these guys were taking basketball as a job,” Gladstone coach Dane Quigley said of his team’s 2-5 start. “I said, ‘Guys, it’s high school basketball. You’re playing because you want to have fun.’ That was part of something where we talked about getting up and down the floor and putting up a bunch of points on the board. I told them to let’s go back to that.”
