N egaunee’s senior core has gone through the complete cycle of a maturation process — from underclassmen who finished with a losing record playing against perennial veteran teams, to discovering how to win late in games last season and eventually capturing a district title. Now, with numerous three-year varsity starters, the Miners are considered one of the top teams in the UP. Still, there’s one goal this group has yet to complete: beat Marquette.
The two rivals will meet tonight at Lakeview Memorial Gymnasium with the programs experiencing a role reversal. This season, it’s the Miners (3-0) with the experienced group, while Marquette (3-0) brings in a talented unit featuring players still looking to solidify themselves among the UP’s elite.
