Houghton’s zone shuts down Escanaba for 60-52 victory

12/12/2018 | Game Recap | By Jason Sutherland

L ast week, Houghton coach Jared Lawson saw something he did not like. His team, who established its stingy 1-2-2 pack line defense in the first game of the season in a win against Westwood, did not produce the same defensive efforts in its following games against Kingsford and L’Anse. With the Escanaba Eskymos bringing a potent offense into Tuesday night’s game, the Gremlins were looking for a defensive statement game to help bring their season back on track.

Lawson’s team responded with a solid defensive showing against one of the best teams in the UP, with help from a barrage of 3s in the first half to propel the Gremlins to a 60-52 win in Houghton.
