W est Iron County coach Eric Shamion had a hunch he might need a late-game play to get a final shot when his team played Negaunee on Tuesday. So, the day before he implemented one in practice. His hunch was wrong — WIC beat Negaunee by nine points — but it wasn’t fruitless.
The play came in handy just two days later when WIC hosted Menominee.
With 10 seconds left, the Wykons were down by a point and Shamion called a timeout to get his players in order.
It worked like they had run it a million times.
Colbi Laturi threw the ball to Eden Golliher in the post. Golliher took one dribble, spun baseline and flicked the ball over two defenders, off the glass and through the net.
Menominee had 4 seconds to work with, but the Maroons couldn’t get the ball up the court, and Golliher’s shot gave WIC the victory, 49-48.
