T he folding table in front of the Dollar Bay gym is covered with white programs for spectators to take as they walk in. On the outside, last year’s Blue Bolts stand proudly, smiles spread across their faces as they hold the district championship trophy. On the inside, this year’s roster lists the eight players tasked with following the best season in school history — an undefeated regular-season record and a trip to the state semifinals.
The names ring a bell. There’s Schmitz and Janke, but not Devin and Jaden, rather Drake and Ashton. And this season, there are two LeClaires; Brendan, last year’s point guard and fifth starter, and Connor, his younger brother.
Dollar Bay graduated four starters, but once the game tips off, things start to look familiar once again. The Blue Bolts still run the same in-your-face pressure defense, they still know how to get to the basket, and they still have shooters who can convert from beyond the arc.
