Djerf’s defense propels Calumet to 58-50 win over WIC

E lli Djerf, though small in comparison to most of her teammates, was given the toughest task in Thursday night’s game: defend West Iron County’s 6-foot junior guard Eden Golliher, who averaged 13.6 points per game while earning All-UP ABC second team honors a season ago. In what seemed like an obvious mismatch, Djerf held Golliher to 11 points with only three coming in the first half, and led her team to a statement 58-50 win against the highly-regarded West Iron County Wykons Thursday in Calumet.

“I was really excited to guard Golliher,” Djerf said. “I knew she was good. She is quite a bit taller, but I knew it would be a fun challenge.”
