T wo Cedarville defenders stand in the paint, shoulder to shoulder, hands up and feet set. There appears to be no way around, and certainly no way through them.
Hunter Lipponen disagrees.
The senior guard attacks, turns his body and manages to slip through a seemingly nonexistent space. He splits the defense, floats a scoop shot off the backboard and then makes his way to the free-throw line for an old-fashioned 3-point play.
For Lipponen, it’s routine. Throughout Brimley’s 71-49 win over rival Cedarville, the senior found the slightest daylight in spaces otherwise clouded by big bodies. He created space where there seemed to be none, propelling Brimley to victory with a career-high 16 points.
