T he 2020-21 All-UP Girls Basketball Teams as chosen by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association. The UPSSA met on April 14 in Marquette to select the teams and individual awards.

This is Foster Wonders’ third Mr. UP Basketball award. This season the Iron Mountain senior hit the 2,000-point scoring mark, broke his school’s scoring record, broke the UP boys scoring record and led IM to a state finals appearance. Wonders will play at Southern Illinois next year.

Escanaba

Escanaba finished the season at 17-3, advancing to the state quarterfinals for the first time since 1960. The Eskymos also won the GNC, defeating Marquette twice on the year and going 6-1 in conference play.

Iron Mountain

Iron Mountain advanced to the state championship game and finished the season at 19-1. This was Iron Mountain’s second finals appearance in a row. In the last three seasons, the Mountaineers have only lost three games.

Rudyard

Rudyard finished the season at 18-3, making a run all the way to the state semifinals. The Bulldogs only lost to one UP team all season (Munising) and went 7-0 in league play, topping the Straits Area Conference.

Iron Mountain

Bucky Johnson led Iron Mountain to an undefeated regular season and a state finals appearance for the second season in three years.

Jim Suggitt

Rudyard

Jim Suggitt led Rudyard to a state semifinals appearance and an 18-3 record. Suggitt’s team improved over the last three seasons, after going 11-11 in 2019, and then 15-6 last year.
