T he Houghton Gremlins received a huge scoring night from George Butvilas, who poured in 34 points in their 79-57 win over Jeffers Tuesday night in Houghton.
Despite the win, Houghton coach Jared Lawson still saw some room for improvement on the defensive end from his team.
“I thought Jeffers shot the ball really well tonight,” he said. “A part of that was due to our inability to close out and slide our feet on defense with proper effort. I feel at times we continue to play below our capabilities on defense, and it is something I have challenged the players on getting better at.”
The Jets were led by Brett Hill with 18 points on five 3s, while Austin Kinnunen scored 12 points on four 3s.
Houghton (7-7) visits Hancock on Friday for the annual Wing Ding game.
Jeffers (4-10) hosts Republic-Michigamme on Wednesday in a makeup game from Jan. 29.
