A fter building a lead, St. Ignace (5-0) was outscored by 15 points in the second half as Reece (6-1) forced overtime. But the Saints rallied in the extra frame to come away with a 63-59 victory, winning their first game of the Motor City Roundball Classic and remaining undefeated.
“We had a large lead and Reece came back and tied it,” coach Dorene Ingalls said. “We did not hold out well in the end and we were lucky to sneak out with the win. We have two days to recover and work on things and get ready for a quick pressing team. We will learn a ton from this game.”
Emily Coveyou led the way with 17 points and nine rebounds, scoring 11 in the fourth quarter and overtime. Anna Hart came off the bench to add 11 points.
The Saints struggled taking care of the ball in regulation, committing 23 turnovers, but they cleaned it up in overtime and didn’t make a single miscue.
