E mily Coveyou scored her 1,000th point on a free throw as St. Ignace went on the road and defeated Sault Ste. Marie 55-45 on Thursday.

She was 9-13 from the free throw line, while also adding 14 rebounds for a double-double.

The Saints have defeated their previous opponents by an average of 50 points, but Sault Ste. Marie kept things close.

“This was a big conference win for us,” St. Ignace coach Dorene Ingalls said. “There are lots of things we need to work on, but Sault Ste. Marie came to play. Hats off to them.”

For the Blue Devils, Melina Robertson and Kayla Wilhelms each scored 11 points.

With the win, the Saints remain undefeated (4-0).

Next up, St. Ignace plays Reece at the Motor City Roundball Classic on Dec. 27.
Sault Ste. Marie (3-3) travels to Traverse City West on Jan. 3.
