T he Westwood Patriots (6-1) defeated the Gwinn Modeltowners 44-39 Thursday night in Ishpeming.
The Patriots featured a balanced scoring attack that included seven players tallying points, led by Blake Hewitt with 12 points.
They trailed at 24-22 at the half but were able to stave off the Modeltowners (3-3) by holding them to just four third-quarter points.
“It was a hard fought game on both team’s parts,” Gwinn coach Jim Finkbeiner said. “It was back and forth most of the night. It was a tough third quarter, but our pressure kept us in the game and a good fourth quarter just wasn’t enough”
The Modeltowners were led by Tucker Taylor with 16 points, with James Harnick added 15.
Gwinn hosts Gladstone on Jan. 4.
Westwood hosts Iron Mountain on Jan. 3.
