2-21 Division 4 girls roundup: St. Ignace defeats Cheboygan, wins Straits Area Conference

T he day after defeating Sault Ste. Marie to clinch a share of the Straits Area Conference title, St. Ignace defeated Cheboygan 69-23 on Thursday to claim the conference title outright.

“It was another nice team win where all nine contributed and are getting better every day,” coach Dorene Ingalls said.

Senior Emily Coveyou led the Saints with 30 points, six steals and six rebounds. Emmalee Hart added nine points, six rebounds and three steals.

Guards Tessa Shepard and Hallie Marshall each contributed six assists and four steals.

“They both made some great passes to their teammates,” Ingalls said.

In Wednesday’s 64-50 win over Sault Ste. Marie, Coveyou led once again with 27 points, eight rebounds and six steals.

Emma Feleppa tallied eight points and had an impact on the defensive end with five blocks.

The game also saw the return of Julia Beaumont for Sault Ste. Marie. She had seven points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

“It was a physical game and hard-fought by both teams,” Ingalls said. “It was great to see Julia Beaumont back for the Soo. They will need her for their tourney run.”


St. Ignace (18-0) goes to Goodrich on Saturday before wrapping up the regular season by hosting Rudyard on Tuesday.
